VODAFONE WARRIORS TO WEAR SPECIAL JERSEY ON ANZAC DAY
Auckland, New Zealand, April 4, 2019 – The Vodafone Warriors have today unveiled a special jersey they will wear in honour of all Anzacs when they take the field against the Storm in Melbourne on April 25.
Anzac Day matches against the Storm have become a regular fixture on the NRL calendar.
And to mark the occasion in their 25th season, the Vodafone Warriors have worked with apparel partner, Canterbury of New Zealand, on a jersey design which pays respect to all those who fought for our freedom.
“We feel incredibly privileged to be playing once again on Anzac Day this year,” Vodafone Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck said.
“It’s an honour to be New Zealand’s team in the NRL and to play on a day that is so important to both Aussies and Kiwis.
“We will wear this jersey proudly and want to acknowledge all the Anzacs, both past and present, and thank them for their service.”
The poppy fields at the base of the jersey represent the fields of remembrance and also symbolise the Anzac spirit.
Both the North and South Islands are also represented by the distant maunga (mountains) - Aoraki on the front of the jersey and Taranaki on the back. Together they symbolise all those that came together to fight for our whenua (land) and people.
“Canterbury’s design of the Anzac jersey pays tribute to those who have made sacrifices for the service of our country,” Canterbury of New Zealand managing director Jamie Meikleham said.
“We’re proud to see the jersey come to life on the field on Anzac Day as we remember those who fought for peace.”
The limited-edition Vodafone Warriors Anzac Day jersey is available to purchase from the club’s official store from today.
